If you are new or didn't know, I've built and maintained a Warhammer Fantasy and Blood Bowl Name Generator. It's a project that I’ve been working on for over 10 years now and this month I've been deep in the guts of code doing a big overhaul.
The big visible change this month that I've implemented is SVG for all the races, which also means they now adapt properly to dark mode for all you night ghouls out there. However most of the work this month has been backend code, the kind of unglamorous optimisation work that doesn't make for exciting screenshots and will be unseen but does make a real difference.
How much of a difference? Here are the numbers:
| Removals | 4961 |

Old total size 432kb
New total size 251kb
Nearly half the file size, which should make the whole thing noticeably snappier to load and a bit less prone to bugs, well hopefully.
On the content side I've added new source names for Amazons and Beastmen this month. I did the Elves last month which was a hefty update in itself. The Vampires also had a significant update, but I’m a bit hazy on when chronologically I did the vampires but somewhere recently. It's slow work going through race by race but it's getting there.
I also got some really useful constructive feedback from SaintScylla at Reddit which I've started implementing; sources listed at each race selection, plus titles for Bretonnia and Empire, and surnames for Bretonnia as well. Some of that is still being filled in but it's underway.
As for what's next; I was hoping to move onto the 40k generator this coming month but I've still got 23 races to update with sources and new names, so that will be keeping me busy for a while yet. I'm also working on adding both a Cathay and a Tilean name generator, which I'm very much looking forward to. When I do eventually get to 40k and Age of Sigmar I'll be able to bring a lot of the improvements from this month’s work across, so it has been time well spent.
