Blessed by Nuffle: A Fresh Start
After running this blog for 14 years, I’ve finally decided take the leap and rename it to something a bit more on brand. With the release of the third season edition of Blood Bowl this Saturday, it felt like the perfect moment to reveal the blog, refreshed and renamed 'Blessed by Nuffle.'
If you’d like to read more about my decision to rename, check out this post.
And if you’re new here, welcome! Find out a bit more about me and the blog in my introduction post.
What’s New
While working on the rebrand, I also took the opportunity to give the blog itself a much-needed tune-up. Here’s what’s changed:
Smarter Pagination
I've rewritten the pagination code from scratch, hopefully making it a bit more reliable, fingers crossed. I went for the less conventional option, switching to reverse numbering, meaning that page 1 features the oldest posts. As new posts appear, they’ll fill the higher-numbered pages. This means that if you ever come back to, say, page 17, it’ll hopefully always have the same content regardless of new updates.
That said, Blogger’s limitations can be quirky, so bookmark behaviour may still be a bit unpredictable!
Visual Overhaul
- Added a dark mode so you don’t need to get blinded if you were to browse at night.
- Introduced a new header and blue navigation menu.
- Other small tickles to the theme.
- When you link to a post it shows a relevant image.
Imperial Calendar
The blog now uses the Imperial Calendar instead of the Gregorian, a small touch that should make timestamps feel more at home in our little corner of the hobby universe. If you hover over the date, the Gregorian equivalent will appear.
Better Navigation & Performance
- Each article now includes three related posts at the bottom.
- The 'you may also like' widget now works.
- The underlying code has had a clean up, removing unnecessary scripts and rewriting everything in vanilla JavaScript, so finally no more jQuery.
- A 51.5% smaller template size, which should make the blog load faster than ever.
Bugs
There might be some bugs still hanging around so if you spot them, please leave me a comment and I'll squash them.
To all my regular readers, thank you for coming this far with me. The new edition and a new chapter lays ahead, let's hope for a smoother experience and lots of interesting conversations to be had. May your dice be ever blessed by Nuffle.
