With Amazon teams being at the top end of the current rule set’s power level, I could see many people’s gazes being drawn their way. I recently did the unboxing of the Kara Temple Harpies plastic Amazon team box set. Today let’s look at the 4th Edition Amazon metal team. For the metal & old school aficionados.

Blood Bowl 4th ed Amazon Metal Team Amazon All-Stars

This team was sculpted by Trish Morrison and Mark Harrison. I don't know how much Mark Harrison did on the team but I do recognise Trish’s typical posing style, ideal for Spin Casting but not always the most aesthetically pleasing for my personal taste. To be fair, I guess you can see it in Mark’s sculpts as well but for some reason I always seem to spot Trish’s sculpts. Don’t get me wrong, she is a better sculptor than me and actually some of my favourite models are her work. However, she has also produced some of the worst models in Games Workshop’s range in my opinion.

Blood Bowl 4th ed Amazon Metal Team Models Back

We were introduced to the Amazon All-Stars in Blood Bowl Magazine #1 in October of 2000. The team came back on ‘Made To Order’ for one week only in October 2021 from Games Workshop Online store as metal casts.

The box came with 12 metal models:

  • 7 Tribal Linewomen (0-16)
  • 1 Eagle Warrior Throwers (0-2)
  • 2 Piranha Warrior Catchers (0-2)
  • 2 Koka Kalim Blitzers (0-4)
A lot of people bought two sets to get the second thrower and all the 4 Blitzers. Spike! Journal 15 in October of 2022 saw the roster change to:
  • 0-16 Eagle Warrior Linewomen
  • 0-2 Python Warrior Throwers
  • 0-2 Piranha Warrior Blitzers
  • 0-2 Jaguar Warrior Blockers
The Piranhas are now the Blitzers and the catcher position is no more but new Blockers were added.
Blood Bowl 4th ed Amazon Metal Team Box Content

I do feel the skull helmets are cool but I would trade some of the knuckle dusters for some more shoulder pads, knee pads, chin guards and vambraces. A lot of the other teams are covered in bulky, spiky armour while these ladies seem to have found a set of armour for a quarter of a team and split it up between them. It’s good to see female representation but it is so important how you do it. I understand that you don’t want too much hot gear if you’re from a tropical environment but that doesn’t mean bikinis are the only option and the only thing you would wear.

When I get around to building this team I will do some reposing to make them a bit less flat. I plan to be a bit more generous and fit them out with a full set of gear each to look like a Blood Bowl team, not a beach/pool party. However, it will be essential to still balance it against their armour value so it doesn't end up looking like the armour 10 goblin team.
