I did not expect to see Blood Bowl news this early in the year. In the recent past when we have had early news, it has been because we missed the late year or Christmas drop. But I'm not complaining. If Games Workshop are trying to capitalise on the excitement built up by the release of the new edition, then there might be more ahead in the pipeline.

New Blood Bowl High Elf Team Reveal

High Elves were the last of the old offical teams that hadn't received new models since the 2016 re-release of Blood Bowl. With the team I'm about to introduce, Games Workshop are now fully up to date*. Let me present to you, 'The Caledor Dragons' High Elf Team.

New Blood Bowl High Elf Team The Caledor Dragons

First thing to note, these are lovely models. I like  really like them, however, their realistic proportions suggests a new sculptor who might not be experienced in using Games Workshop's heroic scale. They are tall and slender as High Elves should be, but when we compare them to other models, even other elf variants, they still seem too tall. Their hands and heads are obviously drawing on realistic proportions and  the legs and torso again seem too elongated when compared to other models. A head swap wouldn't be hard but I'd feel aggrieved to do it because they are beautiful sculpts.

Let's take a closer look at the scale.
New Blood Bowl High Elf Team scale comparison 1

I have talked about trying out minicompare before. They seem to be really on the ball and have someone that keeps an eye on Blood Bowl minis. Here we have comparison of (from left to right) Elven Union Thrower, the new Phoenix Warrior Thrower, the new White Lion Blitzer and the Norse Ulfwerener. It seems odd to me that the new High Elf players are different in scale to the Eleven Union players, that are mainly high elves themselves. I appreciate that sculpting styles evolve and that new models will be slightly different, but this is a big, noticable difference. I'll leave these comparisons here for you to make up your own mind.

You can see a comparison to the Orc team in the first image of the post. In above picture we have (from left to right) a Wood Elf Wardancer, the new Dragon Prince, a Dark Elf Lineman, the new High Elf Lineman and a Chaos Chosen Blocker.

Chaos Chosen Blocker, Human Lineman, New High Elf Lineman, Wood Elf Lineman and New High Elf Lineman.

New Blood Bowl High Elf Team Tokens

Really lovely tokens. Using the High Elf iconic symbolism in a really effective way. The twisting metal ribbon on the coin is a nice detail.

New Blood Bowl High Elf Team Pitch

The new pitch. The green side looks like a nightmare to play on around the line of skirmish and I'm sure the groundskeeper would also chip in that it is a nightmare to maintain. The stone side looks really clear and easy to see.

There will also be a card pack and Spike! Journal 21. As of writing we don't know any dates of pre-release or release only that Games Workshop have said it 'coming soon™️'. I'll update this post as we find out more, so watch this space.

*I haven't forgotten about the Slann. I believe squigs are next due to the chomp markers in the starter box. Then the question is if we will see a Slaanesh Slann team or if we will see their return in some other form. I feel like that must surely happen at some point.
